Architecture completed a stunning residence at one of Gurgaons most coveted addresses DLF Magnolias The team lead by firm partner Rudraksh Charan created the duplex by combining two apartments on consecutive floors each spanning 3500-square-feet By virtue of it being a duplex having a cut-out in the centre and having a double-height terrace the three-dimensional interactivity of the spaces is brilliant says Charan In terms of scale you dont have too many rooms that are too tiny and you dont have very large spaces either 42MM treated the house in three layers the primary structural layer is neutral with muted tones and minimal accents Over that is the layer of green in the form of expansive views of the DLF golf course as well as a variety of indoor house plants and hanging terrace planters Finally there is a layer of artwork sculptural lighting woven carpets décor pieces and wall art that perfectly compliment the modernist and contemporary Italian furniture We did not want to give it a very strong flavour of interior design Charan explains It did not require interior design it required the architecture and the vision to be respected A Modern Minimalist Gurgaon Home Inspired by Le Corbusier Charles-Édouard Jeanneret better known as Le Corbusier was a rebel with a cause Famous for his statement the house is a machine for living Le Corbusier was not afraid to challenge the concept of an old-world home It is no wonder then that the purist canvases of Le Corbusier inspired Bengaluru-based interior design firm FADD Studio to design a modern minimalist home for a family of four in Gurgaon While designing the 5 000 square-foot space the design team led by interior designers Farah Ahmed Mathias Dhaval Shellugar and Dheeraj Dhamu was deeply inspired by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret their deep sienna passage of the Villa La Roche their Chandigarh series and the general polychromatic feel of some of their work The unusual palette of the cement finished grey Sienna and sage set the stage for a sophisticated and refined shell which also had a Zen-like calmness and stillness to it We wanted the materiality of the walls the ceiling and the floor to be harmoniously matte only to differ in colour explains Farah The furniture is a mix of imported brands and locally customised pieces The natural colours and materials of the furniture stand out vibrantly against the textured grey walls of the house giving the otherwise serious shell a dash of drama adds Ahmed A Gurgaon Home Wrapped Inside Trees by Renesa Architecture and Design Sanchit Arora of Renesa completed an expansive f ive-bedroom family home in Gurgaon the bones of which are a striking homage to vernacular Indian architecture Most significantly the building is a testament to the natural world nestled amicably within the foliage of 49 trees The property is situated on Gurgaons affluent Golf Course road a hotbed in the citys glamorous upcoming real estate projects This makes its connection to the natural world all the more valuable and the architects navigation of the site especially commendable The protagonist of this house is not the building its nature explains Arora of the buildings unique trapezoidal shape Nature takes over architecture Arora was careful to arrange the foundations of the house in such a way that it was about 6ft away from the roots of the trees he also created a system of cantilevered walls that extended the reach of the façade into the foliage The house has these angle cuts to allow the trees and the roots to go through the land without rooting them down Arora offers In addition to preserving the foundations of the trees the cantilevers also allow Arora to create an enhanced façade of overlapping walls buffered by insulated air pockets Large red louver frames crafted in MS are positioned at key structural moments to add a secondary source of insulation and also serve to dissipate the light Combined with the enhanced façade the 49 trees act as filters for the natural light dancing sculptures as Arora calls them that create sprinkles of shadow throughout the day The house is actually four degrees cooler than the environment outside just on its own explains Arora who insists that a renaissance of vernacular Indian materials is underway Understated elegance is what I believe in I think its time we as architects start going back to these Indian stones they are the only ones that will sustain the Indian climate they are super strong and obviously cost-effective and sustainable to source A Penthouse Thats An
